Event Description
Creating Schoolwide Cultures of Mathematical Sense-making: Middle Grades
This professional learning experience will provide an opportunity to share thoughts, experiences and ideas with other teachers and interested educators while experiencing a school-wide culture of learning.  The experience will include the opportunity to observe students as active learners in problem-centered mathematics lessons across grade levels and discuss the potential of such lessons for deep student learning.  Debriefing discussions will focus on how and why different schools might implement effective mathematics lessons structured around rich mathematics problems.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to (i) participate in discussions of the co-planning process that led to the observed lessons, (ii) involve other colleague(s) at your school in your own co-planning process to design a problem centered mathematics lesson intended to help students make sense of math concepts and (iii) share and discuss your experience with other participants.

The session will include a one-hour break for lunch.

PLEASE NOTE:
Should you register for this free professional learning event for math educators and then find that you are no longer able to attend for any reason, please contact the KCM at 859-572-7690 or kcm@nku.edu so we can void your registration. This allows the facilitators to plan accordingly and the KCM to offer your spot to another teacher.
The "NO SHOW" rate for the KCM's free events is high - which negatively impacts the facilitators and the teachers who do attend; in addition, if the event was full, a registered teacher, who fails to attend, keeps another teacher who wanted to attend from doing so.

Registration Close Date: Monday, February 5, or when the event reaches maximum capacity - whichever comes first.
