The Kentucky Center for Mathematics is excited to provide this new professional learning event designed for middle school math educators! This 6-session event includes 2 in-person days in July and 4 additional virtual sessions on Wednesday afternoons September 2025 through January 2026. Participants are expected to attend all 6 sessions. Sessions will be facilitated by KCM Faculty Associate Dee Crescitelli with the University of Louisville. The KCM is pleased to provide all 6 professional learning sessions and high-quality materials for only $100 per participant!  

EVENT DESCRIPTION: 
The goal of mathematics education is to develop students’ mathematical reasoning. This year-long, in-depth course provides teachers with information and materials to enable them to strengthen mathematics instruction by building from students’ current funds of knowledge. 
Participants will learn teaching strategies for helping students develop more sophisticated reasoning needed for middle grades mathematics with the goal of improving student access to grade level content. Activities will highlight important mathematical relationships and strategies middle grades students need for a strong foundation of mathematical thinking.

3) Cuisenaire Rods
4) The book Developing Mathematical Reasoning
5) The book Figuring Out Fluency in Mathematics Teaching and Learning
