KCM's Foundations for Primary Grades 2/3 Mathematics course will create a professional learning community of 2nd & 3rd grade teachers that will grow their understanding of effective ways to scaffold and differentiate instruction to better accommodate student needs via a learning climate that welcomes questions, opinions and participation of ALL students.
Members will focus on how to select instructional tasks that encourage mathematical discourse and help students conceptually understand place value, addition/subtraction. multiplication/division. and fractions.
Participants will receive specialized training from an experienced facilitator featuring evidence-based strategies and materials from experts in early numeracy development.
Community members will provide support to each educator as new strategies and methods are utilized in the classroom.
PARTICIPANT REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be a Kentucky 2nd or 3rd grade classroom teacher
2. Attend and fully participate in all virtual and in-person sessions
3. Complete required readings and assignments
4. Reflect on practice and be prepared to share thoughts with others
5. Must provide feedback on surveys and evaluation forms

Virtual sessions will meet via ZOOM meetings on the dates and times listed.
Participants must be able to participate on the dates and during the times listed above. The virtual sessions are live and interactive ZOOM meetings that are not recorded to watch at any other time. Participants cannot be working with students during the virtual sessions. Please do not register for this free professional learning event if you have any conflicts with the schedule above.
The KCM is absorbing all of the costs associated with this training. Should you register for this professional learning event and then will not be able to attend for any reason, you must contact the KCM at kcm@nku.edu or 859-572-7590 to have your registration voided and your spot offered to another teacher. Registered teachers who fail to attend may be charged for the cost of course materials, training and meeting space.
