2025-2026 Kentucky Math Teacher Leaders (KyMTL)

The Kentucky Mathematics Teacher Leaders (KYMTL) program brings together K–12 teachers and teacher leaders who are interested in implementing and sharing best practices in their classrooms, schools, and districts. Participating in this group is a one-year commitment that begins with an in-person meeting in September. Participants then meet monthly, either on a Wednesday evening (4:45–6:00 PM ET) or Saturday morning (8:30–9:15 AM ET) for virtual professional learning sessions. Participants choose the monthly session day and time that works best for them. The year concludes with a second in-person meeting in April.

This professional learning and support group was formed by the Kentucky Center for Mathematics (KCM) in 2020; and since that first year, the passionate members have advanced their careers and helped bring about positive changes in their classrooms, schools, and districts! (You can view the current and past KyMTLs on the the KCM website's KYMTL page under the LEADERS tab.) There is no cost for Kentucky teaches to participate in this group. Participants attend the monthly ZOOM meetings and in-person workshops facilitated by KCM Faculty Associate/NKU Education Associate Professor Funda Gonulates or other invited guest speakers who are leaders in mathematics education.

Kentucky Mathematics Coach Collegial Support (VIRTUAL) with Cindy Aossey & Dee Crescitelli (2025-2026)
This is Year 2 for this online professional learning and support opportunity from the KCM for KENTUCKY K-12 Mathematics Coaches only. This group is for anyone working in Kentucky in a supportive role to teachers, which includes School Administrators. The KCM created this collegial support group so mathematics coaches throughout the Commonwealth could network and connect with each other. Together, this group will explore coaching resources and discuss ways to support teachers in their pedagogy and content knowledge grounded in Kentucky Academic Standards.  

This 2025-2026 Collegial Support Group for Kentucky Math Coaches includes the following: 
1. Seven 1-hour monthly ZOOM meetings on Friday afternoons where participants can interact with fellow KY math coaches and learn from KCM Leaders including Director Cindy Aossey and Faculty Assocaite Dee Crescitelli, along with other special guest speakers. 
2. Opportunities to connect and collaborate with KY math coaches to share ideas and experiences.   
3. Active participants will receive the book Rough Draft Math by Amanda Jansen.  
4. Because virtual is great but in-person is better, the KCM will hold a special, invitation-only, get-together session for this group at the 2026 KCM Conference in Lexington on March 9th or 10th.  


COST: FREE for Kentucky math coaches. (You must work as a math coach or administrator in a KY school or school district to join this group.)

Developing Mathematical Reasoning and Fluency in Grades 5-8 with Dee Crescitelli (2025-2026)

The Kentucky Center for Mathematics is excited to provide this new professional learning event designed for middle school math educators! This 6-session event includes 2 in-person days in July and 4 additional virtual sessions on Wednesday afternoons September 2025 through January 2026. Participants are expected to attend all 6 sessions. Sessions will be facilitated by KCM Faculty Associate Dee Crescitelli with the University of Louisville. The KCM is pleased to provide all 6 professional learning sessions and high-quality materials for only $100 per participant!  

EVENT DESCRIPTION: 
The goal of mathematics education is to develop students’ mathematical reasoning. This year-long, in-depth course provides teachers with information and materials to enable them to strengthen mathematics instruction by building from students’ current funds of knowledge. 

Participants will learn teaching strategies for helping students develop more sophisticated reasoning needed for middle grades mathematics with the goal of improving student access to grade level content. Activities will highlight important mathematical relationships and strategies middle grades students need for a strong foundation of mathematical thinking.

3) Cuisenaire Rods
4) The book Developing Mathematical Reasoning
5) The book Figuring Out Fluency in Mathematics Teaching and Learning

HERE IS A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE KCM's FLUENCY ASSESSMENT TRAINING:

The Kentucky Numeracy Project Fluency Assessment materials and online application are available to any elementary school math educator that has completed the free KCM Fluency Assessment Training course. In this virtual 90-minute session, participants will learn how to administer and score the assessments through the lens of the Kentucky Academic Standards.

  • Fluency Assessments are a free resource created by the Kentucky Center for Mathematics (KCM).
  • The assessments are aligned to the Kentucky Academic Standards for grades K-3.
  • Each assessment comes in 9 versions that can be used for progress monitoring.
  • Fluency assessments are administered using a one-on-one interview format.
  • Participants will gain access to the full suite of Fluency Assessments after completing the online training session and a practice assessment with an elementary-aged student.
  • The ZOOM meeting link for this session will be emailed only to each registered teacher; you must be registered to attend! The ZOOM meeting link should not be shared with anyone who is not registered. Attendance will be taken using the ZOOM meeting report.

Kentucky Math INTERVENTIONIST Collegial Support- VIRTUAL - Cindy Aossey & Julie Adams (2025-2026) 
The KCM is proud to support Kentucky Math Interventionists! This online collegial learning and support opportunity is open to all Kentucky K-8 math intervention teachers who want to grow as professionals and share their knowledge, successes and struggles with fellow math intervention teachers.   

This 2025-2026 Collegial Support Group for Kentucky Math Interventionists includes the following: 
1. Seven one-hour monthly ZOOM meetings where participants can interact with fellow math interventionists and learn from KCM Director Cindy Aossey and other special guest speakers.
2. A monthly newsletter filled with teacher tips and intervention resources will be emailed to all registered Kentucky math interventionists.  
3. Active participants will receive the 2025-2026 KY MIT Welcome Kit, as well as two MIT Support Boxes (one in Fall 2025 and one in Spring 2026). 
4. Because virtual is great but in-person is better, the KCM will hold a special, invitation-only get-together for this group at the 2026 KCM Conference in Lexington on Monday or Tuesday, March 9 or 10, 2026.  


COST: FREE for Kentucky math interventionists. (You must work as a math interventionist in a KY school or school district to join this group.)

NOTES ABOUT THIS KY MIT COLLEGIAL SUPPORT GROUP:
1.) Kentucky math interventionists may register at any time. You do not need to be able to attend every virtual ZOOM meeting to register and receive the monthly newsletter; however, the 2025-2026 KY MIT Welcome Kit and the Support Boxes will only be mailed to active participants (those who are able to attend the ZOOM meetings).
2.) The Welcome Kit and Support Boxes will be mailed to the address you enter on your registration. The KCM cannot mail to P.O. Boxes. Please provide the address for where your office is located. If you work for the entire school district, but your office is located at one school in the District, provide the address for that school but enter your position title as District Math Interventionist.       
2.) All registered participants will receive the monthly newsletter and the ZOOM meeting link via an email from KCM Director Cindy Aossey. Those emails may go to your junk or spam folder so check there regularly after registering for this event. 
3.) The KCM asks that participants in the monthly ZOOM meetings list their full name in the ZOOM meeting, or their first initial and last name, so the KCM can record attendance. Participants in the monthly ZOOM meetings will be emailed a KCM Attendance Certificate for each session they attend.

Each year, the Kentucky Center for Mathematics (KCM) brings together math educators from Kentucky and across the United States for two days of wonderful professional learning. The KCM's annual math conference is one of the best conferences for math educators in the United States! He is the author of See It, Say It, Symbolize It: Teaching the Big Ideas in Elementary Mathematics. Patrick's passion is supporting teachers as they help students see the beauty and joy of mathematics. 
On Tuesday, 3/10/25:     
The Keynote address will delivered by the co-founders of Fostering Math Practices - Grace Kelemanik and Amy Lucenta. They are co-authors of Routines for Reasoning: Fostering Mathematical Practices in All Students and Teaching for Thinking: Fostering Mathematical Teaching Practices Through Reasoning Routines. Currently, Amy serves on the NCSM Board as a Regional Director and Grace is a member of the NCTM Board of Directors. The KCM thanks KEDC (Kentucky Educational Devlopment Coorporation) for sponsoring Tuesday's Keynote.    

FOOD AND DRINK:
Coffee, tea and water stations will be available both days.   
A hot buffet lunch will be provided to all registered attendees both days. The KCM thanks Elevate Academy for a lunch sponsor!   
Breakfast will not be provided either day.    

HOTEL RESERVATIONS:
Your 2026 KCM Conference registration does not include hotel room reservations at the Griffin Gate. If you need a hotel room, you must make those hotel reservations yourself. REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION EMAIL:
Please note that anyone who successfully completes their registration for the 2026 KCM Conference will receive a registration confirmation email from kcm@nku.edu. This email - because it will have a copy of your invoice attached - often goes to the recipient's junk or spam folder. Please check your junk and spam folders regularly after you register for emails from the KCM about this event. 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING YOUR 2026 KCM CONFERENCE INVOICE:
1. The KCM emails a copy of the registration fee invoice to each registered person. It is that person's responsibility to forward a copy of their invoice on to whomever at their school/district/organization is responsible for paying it. The KCM does not mail any invoices.  
2. Your 2026 KCM Conference invoice must be paid before the conference! 3. Some school districts require that a purchase order number be on your invoice before they will pay it. KCM REGISTRATION CANCELLATION POLICY - LAST DAY TO CANCEL IS FRIDAY 2/20/2026:
1. If you register and then find that you will be unable to attend for any reason, you must contact the KCM at 859-572-7690 or kcm@nku.edu by Friday, 2/20/26 to request that the KCM void your registration and its registration fee.  
2. Starting Monday, February 23, 2026, your registration fee cannot be voided, refunded or waived for any reason. This is 2 weeks before the event and when attendee counts are finalized. HERE IS A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE KCM's FLUENCY ASSESSMENT TRAINING:

The Kentucky Numeracy Project Fluency Assessment materials and online application are available to any elementary school math educator that has completed the free KCM Fluency Assessment Training course. In this virtual 90-minute session, participants will learn how to administer and score the assessments through the lens of the Kentucky Academic Standards.

  • Fluency Assessments are a free resource created by the Kentucky Center for Mathematics (KCM).
  • The assessments are aligned to the Kentucky Academic Standards for grades K-3.
  • Each assessment comes in 9 versions that can be used for progress monitoring.
  • Fluency assessments are administered using a one-on-one interview format.
  • Participants will gain access to the full suite of Fluency Assessments after completing the online training session and a practice assessment with an elementary-aged student.
  • The ZOOM meeting link for this session will be emailed only to each registered teacher; you must be registered to attend! The ZOOM meeting link should not be shared with anyone who is not registered. Attendance will be taken using the ZOOM meeting report.
