Fluency Assessment Training - Sumer Smith (August 2023)

Event Description
8/14/23: This cohort is full. We will not be adding anyone else to this cohort. But please note that we have just added three additional cohorts of this same training: September 18, October 25, and December 1. Fluency Assessment Training with KCM Regional Consultant Sumer Smith:

In this 90-minute session, participants will learn how to administer and score the KCM Kentucky Numeracy Project Fluency Assessments. 

  • Fluency assessments are a free resource created by the Kentucky Center for Mathematics. 
  • The assessments are aligned to fluency standards for grades K-3.
  • Each assessment comes in 9 versions that can be used for progress monitoring. 
  • Fluency assessments are administered using a one-on-one interview format. 
  • Participants will gain access to the full suite of Fluency Assessments after completing the online training session and a practice assessment with an elementary-aged student.
  • Fluency Assessment Training is open to any educator, even those who teach outside of Kentucky.
DATE:  Thursday, August 31, 2023  
TIME:  4:30 - 6:00 pm Eastern Time (which is 3:30 - 5:00 pm Central Time)
LOCATION: Virtual ZOOM Meeting  
  • Participants must be able to participate virtually on the date of the session at the scheduled time. This training is live and interactive; it is not recorded to be watched at any other time. 
  • Registered participants will receive the information they need to connect to the ZOOM meeting from the facilitator Sumer Smith ( This email may go to your junk folder so look for it there.   • The registration cut-off date for this event is Wednesday, August 30, 2023.

When you register for this event, you are creating a KCM member record and agree to becoming a "Friend of the KCM" and receive periodic emails from us including our bi-monthly newsletter and emails about future KCM professional learning events. We ask that anyone who attends a KCM professional learning event remain a Friend of the KCM for at least one year following the event.

  • For any teacher who has attended a KCM event in the past, your work email is already in our system; enter that same email at the start and everything else should auto-populate. Please update anything else that has changed or is missing.

  • Kentucky public school educators must use their "firstname.lastname@(school district)" email.
  • If you work for an organization and not a school or school district, please enter the name of the organization where you work and put OTHER for school district and N/A for county. 
  • If you teach outside of Kentucky, please include your state abbreviation in parenthesis after the name of your school district and school (or organization) and enter N/A for County.       
  • Please include the grade of math you work with on your position title: examples=3rd Grade Teacher; K-5 Math Interventionist; Curriculum Coach K-12.
  • The KCM does not sell or provide our member contact lists to anyone. The information provided on your registration is used only by the KCM.
