Event Description
Imagine a school where parents are true partners in mathematical learning. Now learn how to make that vision a reality. This course will empower you to host an AMAZING Family Math Night at your school. Course participants even get to choose from a KCM approved list of math manipulatives and order up to $250 in materials to use at their Family Math Night.

COURSE TITLE: Family Math K-6: Empowering Parents as Partners

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Families are critical partners in students' developing mathematical knowledge. Yet, so many parents, grandparents and guardians feel frustrated and overwhelmed when trying to help their child with math. For this course, the KCM utilizes the book Partnering With Parents in Elementary School Math: A Guide for Teachers and Leaders; this wonderful resource provides educators with guidance on how to communicate with families about their child's math learning. Each participant receives a copy of this book.

During this course, participants will:
* explore research on family engagement and how to educate parents concerning math fluency and the Kentucky Academic Standards.
* discuss family math resources and how to conduct a family math night event.
* host one Family Math Night at their own school.
* receive up to $250 of manipulatives and activity resources for their family math night. Participants will choose the materials and resources they need from a list of approved options provided by the KCM. (Materials orders must be given to the KCM at least 6 weeks before the Family Math Night event and no later than February 23, 2024.)

Registration closes on Thursday, August 17, 2023.  Participants must register by 11:59 pm on Thursday, August 17 in order to attend.

Registration limit for this course is 25 participants. Once that limit is reached, the KCM will be unable to accept any additional participants.

Because participants might register during the 2022-23 fiscal school year, but this course meets during the 2023-24 fiscal school year, the KCM can change the date on any invoice if needed to be July 3, 2023. Please email the KCM at kcm@nku.edu or call us at 859-572-7690 if you need that change made.

Please note:
This KCM professional learning event is for KENTUCKY K-6 educators only. Participants commit to implementing one Family Math Night event at their school during the 2023-24 school year. Each school will receive up to $250 of materials to use at their Family Math Night event.

Since spots in this course are limited, we ask that each school register just one participant - which should be the person who will be leading the planning and implementation of the Family Math Night event at their school. Should a school want to have more than one person attend this course, they should contact the KCM at 859-572-7690 or kcm@nku.edu to discuss their situation. The KCM will determine the best way to handle any additional registrations needed for that school.

The $50 registration fee is non-refundable once the book is ordered. If you register and then become unable to attend for any reason, your school or district may send someone else to attend in your place. Regardless of whether or not a replacement is sent, the course invoice will still need to be paid.

Information regarding Purchase Orders and KCM Invoices:
* You may register for any KCM course without a PO; however, please note that many Kentucky school districts require you obtain a PO before they will pay the invoice. Please obtain a PO if one is required by your school or district.
* Only the registered participant will be emailed a copy of the course invoice. It is the participant's responsibility to forward that invoice on to the appropriate person at their school or district for payment.
* Participants may ask that a copy of their invoice be emailed to another email address; contact the KCM at 859-572-7690 or kcm@nku.edu.
* KCM Invoices are not mailed.
