Do your students struggle to make sense of word problems? In this 2-day course, learn proven strategies for problem solving that will be a game changer for your K-2 students! Participants will receive over $200 in classroom materials and books.   

 
COURSE TITLE: Unlocking Student Thinking (K-2): The Art of Math Problem Solving 
This course was previously part of the KCM's "Comprehensive Course for Primary Grades K-2"

COURSE DESCRIPTION: 
Learn strategies and gain resources to help students make sense of different problem structures, equivalence, and more. 
* Explore the various structures of story problems and the key role algebraic reasoning plays as students make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
* Supplement your current curriculum by asking impactful questions that support student thinking and promote problem solving.
* Learn instructional routines that support students to enter and work through problems. 

* Materials include Good Questions: Great Ways to Differentiate Mathematics Instruction in the Standards-Based Classroom, math balances - including the Monkey Balance - a Fun Counting and Balance Game, pattern blocks, and more!

COST: $200 per participant

Registration closes on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. Participants must register by 11:59 pm on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, in order to attend.

Registration limit for this course is 25 participants. Once that limit is reached, the KCM will be unable to accept any additional participants.

The $200 registration fee is non-refundable once materials are ordered. If you register and then become unable to attend for any reason, your school or district may send someone else to attend in your place. Please contact the KCM at 859-572-7690 if you register and then are unable to attend.  

Information regarding Purchase Orders and KCM Invoices:
* You may register for any KCM course without a PO; however, please note that many Kentucky school districts require you obtain a PO before they will pay the invoice. Please obtain a PO if one is required by your school or district.
* Only the registered participant will be emailed a copy of the course invoice. It is the participant's responsibility to forward that invoice on to the appropriate person at their school or district for payment.
* Participants may ask that a copy of their invoice be emailed to another email address; contact the KCM at 859-572-7690 or kcm@nku.edu. 
* KCM Invoices are not mailed. 
* Payment is greatly appreciated prior to the course start date, and must be paid as soon as the course is finished.
